Marilyn Chambers, of Westport, dead at 56
Posted by chainsaw under movies
From the AP:
LOS ANGELES—Marilyn Chambers, the pretty Ivory Snow soap girl who helped bring hard-core adult films into the mainstream consciousness when she starred in the explicit 1972 movie “Behind the Green Door,” has died at 56.The cause of death was not immediately known. A family friend, Peggy McGinn, said Chambers’ 17-year-old daughter found the actress’ body Sunday night at her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Canyon Country. Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene, the county coroner’s office said Monday.

Scene-Stealing Tree Featured In ‘The Deer Hunter’ Dies
Posted by chainsaw under movies
After shooting to stardom in the late 1970s with its scene-stealing turn as a stately old-growth conifer in The Deer Hunter, the tree soon cemented its reputation as one of Hollywood’s most dependable character actors.

Dana White Says He’s Sorry
Posted by chainsaw under movies
Dana White just (I think just) posted an apology for his boneheaded rant against a female reporter.
UFC are the only pro athletes worth watching and White has always seemed to be a standup guy, although he still manages to come across like a jerk, even in the apology.

Stupid subtitles update
Posted by chainsaw under movies
I wrote yesterday about the wrong subtitles on the DVD release of vampire flick “Let the Right One In.”
Apparently the distributor will put the original subtitles back . . . but, if you already purchased “Let the Right One In” on DVD, you’re stuck.
From Dread Central, via Digital Bits:
“We’ve been made aware that there are several fans that don’t like the version of the subtitles on the DVD/BR. We had an alternate translation that we went with. Obviously a lot of fans thought we should have stuck with the original theatrical version. We are listening to the fans feedback, and going forward we will be manufacturing the discs with the subtitles from the theatrical version.”
That’s nice and all — but there’s just one catch.
“There are no exchanges. We are going to make an alternate version available however. For those that wish to purchase a version with the theatrical subtitles, it will be called out in the tech specs box at the back/bottom of the package where it will list SUBTITLES: ENGLISH (Theatrical), SPANISH.”

Another Watchmen Autopsy
Posted by chainsaw under movies
I like Nikki Finke because she’s not a blog fanboy. Here’s her take on the “Watchmen” (remember them?).
” . . . this is one of those rare times in Hollywood when the consensus complains that the director and the studio tried to stay too faithful to the source material in order not to offend the sensibilities of the fanboy core audience. . .”
As one admired: “The campaign was about planting a big flag in the ground as if to say, ‘We are an event. And if you don’t understand that, then you’re not cool enough to get it’. ”
For instance, the Warner Bros team resisted the obvious tagline for Watchmen that “someone is killing off superheroes” in order not to oversimplify or oversell it. (As close as the marketing came was “We want our superheroes”.) That meant doing something movie marketers rarely do: accepting that Watchmen is an acquired taste based on a restrictive idea and written as an inaccessible story and then made into a movie that isn’t for everyone.

Stephen King’s It Coming Soon
Posted by chainsaw under movies
The Hollywood Reporter is, uh, reporting that “Stephen King’s It,” the book turned into a not bad 1990 miniseries, is being adopted for the big screen.
Now that’s remake I can get behind.
Here’s a clip that taught me never to talk to guys with Jersey accents living in the sewer.

Sam Raimi, the man responsible for the “Evil Dead” flicks, is making a return to horror apparently with “Drag Me to Hell.”
The trailer for the film hit the Web today. Here it be:
I caught wind of the trailer via ScreenRant.

Crazy Eddie movie!
Posted by chainsaw under movies
Remember these commercials?
Crazy Eddie had a kick-butt electronics chain back in the day — and some darn good commercials. Unfortunately, the owners of the business eventually went to jail, and now Danny DeVito is making a movie about his life.
(Note: The Crazy Eddie pitchman was an actor, not the actual owner)
Judging from thus undated CNBC promo, seems the actual Crazy Eddies were pretty crazy.
